New Delhi, Sep 16: Sujeet Singh, director of National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) said that in the next six months coronavirus will begin to transform into an endemic as the new variant alone cannot bring the third wave of Covid.

Singh said that this means the stress on the health infrastructure will be reduced as the infection can be managed more easily by the health professionals, provided the death and rate of infection is controlled. He also appreciated that the state of Kerala is also coming out the grip of Covid in the past few weeks.

The need for vaccination and post vaccination behaviour by the public is also important according to Singh. According to Singh around 20 to 30 percent people who have received two doses of vaccination will also get infected again.

The breakthrough infections are caused by the new variants of the virus and they infect people who have taken vaccine after 70 to 100 days as their immunity level will drop.

Going by statistics considering 70 crore of country’s population vaccinated, around crores will have immunity against virus if 70 percent efficacy of the vaccine is considered. Around 30 crore people will also be considered immunized since they have taken the first dose of vaccine. The infections will reduce as more people get exposed to virus.

Singh said that C1.2 and Mu strains are not yet found in India. A mixture of behaviour and antibodies will decide the onset of third wave and not just a new variant. He also said that people will have more chances of getting infected in the upcoming festival season.
