Mangalore, Oct 7: Sporadic rains soaked isolated places over Karnataka coast since Wednesday evening. Good rains were reported from Subrahmanya, Beltangady, Dharmasthala, Kinnigoly and the city. Since early evening on Wednesday, black clouds had covered the horizon of the coast.
After the retaining wall erected in Padebail in Totattady in Beltangady taluk gave way, 22 acres of agricultural fields owned by different villagers were inundated. Crops worth several lacs of rupees were destroyed in this incident. Regular rains are also threatening to damage standing paddy crops in various places.
A Madrassa in Jansale village within Siddapur gram panchayat, Kundapur taluk, was damaged due to lightning on Wednesday. The wall of the Madrassa developed cracks, its compound wall suffered some damages, while electrical wiring and some equipments were affected. Loss in this incident has been put at about Rs 60,000.
The meteorological department has predicted light to normal rains in the coast and some regions located in southern hinterlands. This prediction is valid till Friday morning.
