Kundapur, Sep 6: As the Covid positivity rate is 1.4% in Udupi district, imposing weekend curfew is unscientific. Kundapur fair, said to be the biggest fair of Udupi, is held on Saturday. Farmers, traders and people face problems due to the weekend curfew. Therefore, a decision was taken in the Hakkottaya meeting here to submit a request to the chief minister for cancellation of the weekend curfew.
B Kishore Kumar Kundapur speaking in the meeting held at Hotel Sharon, Kundapur on Monday said that Saturday is the important day for Kundapur. “People from Byndoor, Hebri and Brahmavar come for the fair on Saturday. Therefore, it is better to give up weekend curfew and take any other effective way to control the virus,” he said.
Traders are already facing an unstable situation. How is the weekend curfew right when schools and colleges are kept open?” he asked.
Sridhar P S addressed the meeting. Udupi district bakery products marketing union’s Vishwanath, Lions club president Radhakrishna Nayaka, municipal council appointed member Rathnaker Kundapur, Dinesh Gode, Suresh Bhandarkar, Praveen Raghurama, Damodar Pai, Trivikram Pai, Girish Hebbar and others were present.
