Mangaluru, Sep 6: So what if there is no 'Ikea' in Mangaluru, we now have our unique, very own 'JAKEA The Eco Design Store' to take care of all our furniture needs.
The Eco Design Store at Pachanady in Bondel was established by Michael Rego in 1996 and we were among their very first patrons to use their rubber wood furniture for our complete Bangalore home interiors in 1999. The concept of using light coloured rubberwood was not very well known then and it added to the spacious look of the rooms. Rubber wood furniture used to be imported from abroad, and Michael Rego was a pioneer in those times, for using locally termite treated rubber wood that was eco-friendly too.
Their creativity designs merited great conversations among our guests. A chair that transforms into a step ladder or a mirrored dining unit, with extra pull out as a bar, or a wall hanging that doubled up as a foldable shelf holder, their unique art inspired furniture kept getting lots of appreciation.
And every item is still used in good condition, even now after 22 years at our Bengaluru home. So it was a pleasure to revisit their revamped 20000 sq ft Mangaluru showroom and factory in these times of 'Make in India’. And it was an added bonus to interact there with the local corporator of that area Sangeeta.
Eco Design store has really come a long way since the last few decades, having done many interior design projects in Goa and Bangalore too. They have a great team which can be called artisans of new designs in wood! They can custom make the furniture as per the customer's needs.
Even the store interiors felt more like a home as I walked through their wide collection of living room, bedroom, dining room, and kitchen sets and unique accessories.
Do visit them and smile as you avail of economical packages for your unique rubber wood furniture needs for doing up.
