Mangalore, Oct 5: Sri Veera Venkatesha Charitable Trust held a programme at Sri Venkataramana Temple here to honour GSB meritorious students of the twin districts on Sunday October 3. The trust also released Konkani Health Card for the year and distributed free accident policies to people who are drivers.
T Ganapathi Pai, secretar gave a brief explanation of the various projects undertaken by the trust. This year through the trust about 37,000 members have been enrolled in the Arogya Card Scheme. He mentioned that as per the information collected from KMC, last year free benefit to the tune of approximately Rs 65 lac has been extended from KMC hospitals to card holders of the trust. He also explained that from last year the trust has extended free personal accident policy of Rs 1 lac to drivers, who through this are also eligible for weekly compensation of Rs 1000 in case if they are unable to work due to any accidental injury.
Totally 77 merit students were honoured. In all 35 students from SSLC, 29 students from PUC and 13
students who secured ranks in graduation and postgraduation courses. For all students a medal,
certificate and cash award of Rs 2000 (SSLC), Rs 3000 (PUC) and Rs 5000 (rank students) were given from Dr P Dayananda Pai & P Satish Pai Trust. Dr P Dayananda Pai and Mohini Pai feliciated all the merit students.
Mohini Pai also released the arogya card and delivered the cards to few benificieries.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Dayananda Pai said that no child should stop education on account of financial problems. He informed that his trust has been helping thousands of students for education. He also said that only education can solve the problems of poverty.
J S Shenoy, deputy general manager, Syndicate Bank released the personal accident policy and handed over the policies to the benificieries.
Manjunath Shenoy, president of the trust welcomed the guests. Ganesh Prasada Mallya, treasurer of the trust conducted the programme and T Rathnakar Pai proposed the vote of thanks.
