Bengaluru, Sep 4: Former minister and Congress MLA M B Patil, who had taken a strong view that Lingayat should be made a separate religion without the inclusion of Veerashaiva community, seems to have changed his mind. He clarified that there will not be any action plan or fight in support of this demand.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday September 3, he said he does not like to speak about any movements or action plans. "After the 2023 assembly election, I will collect opinions of everyone in the presence of Lingayat and Veerashaiva community leaders and religious heads, hold discussions with open mind, and then arrive at a consensus thereafter", he stated. He said he is committed to this idea.

Patil said that all the 99 sects of Veerashaiva and Lingayat community will join together and work in the best interests of everyone. "We need to get facilities of reservation in education and employment. I had earlier spelt out this goal. I do not know where I went wrong. My statements are repeatedly projected in the wrong way. That is why I am clarifying the issue," he stated.
