Mangaluru: MCC’s 'Tiger' operation to clear footpaths from August 30

Mangaluru, Aug 28: At the general session of the city corporation held at Mangala hall of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) building on Friday August 27, it was unanimously decided to resume 'Tiger' operation to clear footpath encroachers from August 30 onward.

At the session, some members blamed the officials for not properly undertaking the drive. City corporation commissioner, Akshy Sridhar, said that the operation was undertaken for a week, but because of the dearth of staff and vehicles, it could not be continued. He said that a taskforce will be formed and the operation will be undertaken again. The mayor asked the officials to undertake the operation on a continuous basis.

    Let them first clear the shop owners who have extended their shop-ware display on to the footpaths. And also the push cart mafia that has occupied the footpath and half the road around the defunct central market; instead of troubling the poor people etching out a living by selling essentials on the footpaths. Also stop the Sunday market that jumps to life on the footpath in front of the town hall.
