Bengaluru, Aug 24: Vice President Venkaiah Naidu launched the Vaccinate India campaign being jointly undertaken by the Planning, Plan Coordination and Statistics Department and Give India Foundation at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.
Two women were symbolically administered vaccines.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice President advised the people not to be careless and be vigilant, strictly follow the Covid appropriate behaviour and especially weaving of masks, maintaining six feet distancing and sanitation.
Getting vaccinated important, he said and pointed out that there is no alternative to compulsory vaccination. People should avoid eating junk food and better eat traditional foods, Naidu said.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the State Government wants to give vaccines to the poor and lower strata of society free of cost. He urged donors and private institutions to come forward CSR funds.
Bommai said the State Government wants to administer 5 lakh doses of vaccines a day from September onwards from the present 3.5 to 4 lakh doses daily. The government is expecting a supply of 1.5 lakh doses of vaccines, he added.
Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr K Sudhakar, MP P C Mohan and MLA Munirathna, BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta and Give India Foundation representatives were present.
