Udupi, Aug 7: Minister V Sunil Kumar on Saturday August 7 said that all should be involved in the work to curtail the spread of Covid. “I have already requested the party workers not to organise any kind of felicitation programmes for me. I will not participate in such programmes. All party workers should follow this,” he said.
He was speaking in a meeting regarding Covid and flood situation in the district.
He said, “Compulsorily, those who have tested positive for Covid, should take treatment from Covid care centres. There is a facility of 2,000 beds in all taluks of the districts. It has been started in Miyar, Nitte and Hebri to admit the Covid patients.
“Already, an oxygen unit is functioning in Karkala and Hebri through the government and CSR facilities. As the materials have come to start oxygen units at Udupi district hospital, Ajjarkad and Kundapur government hospital, the work will be completed within a week.
“We will make all kinds of efforts to increase the number of beds in ICU before August 30. Already, 15 beds in Karkala, 15 beds in Kundapura and 20 beds in all district hospitals are ready. If there are five active cases within 100 meters, such places will be considered as places of active cases. Such places will be sealed down.
“In the district, 34,000 doses of Covid vaccines are required for second dose vaccination. The government has been urged to provide the required vaccines. The cases of Covid are increasing through the people from outer districts. Preventive measures have been taken at tourist places. In the district, as many as 64% of the first dose of Covid vaccination is completed. The district achieved first place in distribution of the second dose of vaccines. The district also secured second place in administering first dose of vaccines.
“We have already formed a committee under gram panchayat limits to tackle the flood situation. If people lose their house due to flood, compensation for the flood victims and other natural disasters should be provided within 48 hours. Already, funds have been released to the bank accounts of tahsildars in this regard. There is Rs 11 crore with the district administration to tackle natural disasters.
“No such losses have taken place in Udupi district like the losses in Uttara Kannada,” he said.
Udupi MLA K Raghupati Bhat, Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon, Byndoor MLA Sukumar Shetty and others were present.
