Puttur, Aug 6: Police have arrested an accused in connection with a theft case, 36 years after he went absconding.
The arrested accused is identified as Lingappa, a resident of Kumbladi in Puttur taluk. Head constable Parameshwar had gathered information about Lingappa. It is said that the accused was at large soon after a case was registered against him.
It is said that the accused was running an auto rickshaw in Shivamogga for five years. Later, he shifted to Mangaluru and married a girl from a different faith after changing his name to Rehamath Khan. For 29 years, he was into the shellfish business. For three years, he was with a construction company and hence was in Mundagodi, Hubballi and Belagavi and other places.
For a week, he was in Thiruvallur village in Mangaluru, when he was finally arrested.
Lingappa will be produced to the court, informed police.
