Gadag, Jul 31: Young men from a village in the district have been lamenting for long that no family is prepared to give their daughters in marriage to them. This grave situation is faced by the young men and their parents from Gadagoli village in Ron taluk in this district. They belong to families displaced by Malaprabha river. The people from this village do not have any house that is inhabitable. Who wants to give girls to families not having a proper residence?

The families here do not have their own land to construct their own houses. For this reason, girls are not interested in getting married to boys from this village. The parents have been worrying over the fate of their sons. Some families have shifted elsewhere with the sole purpose of getting their sons married. They have been asking their MLA C C Patil, to fix girls for them.

Houses in Gadagoli

The villagers blame the legislator and officials for their predicament. They lost their houses and belongings in 2009 due to floods in Malaprabha river. About five hundred houses had been built for the benefit of the affected families but even after about ten years, these houses have not been allotted to these families and no title deeds have been issued. The villagers blame the officials and false promises of their MLA for this problem. People are tired of approaching officials with a request to distribute houses to them. They can't build houses on their own as they do not have sites. As such, they have been building houses made of tin sheets at their will.

People are not ready to marry off their girls to boys from this village as they live in the open without a proper house of their own. One of the young men, it is said, approached about 25 girls but none of them was ready to marry him.

Many of the houses built by the government have crashed to the ground. Many have no windows or doors. There is no power supply and no roads. If it rains, roads turn into slushy stretches. Even women take their baths outside as there is no proper space to take a bath. People park their vehicles on the road because of space constraints. The villagers have been waiting for their houses for the last ten long years, and now their sons are waiting for their future wives.
