Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 31: The number of cases of face mask violation in the undivided district of Dakshina Kannada have crossed 1,28,051 and an amount of Rs 1.51 crore is collected in this connection as fine.
The rule of wearing face masks in public places has been in implementation since 14 months after the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. But citizens are violating the rules and police personnel are slapping fines.
In the district of Dakshina Kannada so far 82,384 cases of face mask rule violation are recorded and the amount collected in terms of fine has reached Rs 1,00,16,717. The corresponding figures for Udupi stand at 45,667 and Rs 51,72,220.
Rs 250 fine is slapped on face mask rule violators under the limits of corporations and town municipalities, while the fine amount is Rs 100 under the limits of local bodies.
