Bengaluru, Jul 31: The number of coronavirus cases is increasing throughout the country in the midst of fear of a third wave of the dreaded pandemic.
In Kerala, on the fourth consecutive day more than 20,000 new cases are reported. In India, 44,230 new cases were detected in the past 24 hours. While 555 people have died in the country, the toll in Kerala was 116. The reason for the increase of coronavirus cases in Kerala is that the percentage of people who have developed antibodies against coronavirus is less compared to the country-wide average. According to the Sero survey that was conducted throughout the country, around 68% of the people in the country have developed antibodies against the coronavirus. This average for Kerala is just 43%. So more people in Kerala are at a risk of getting infected with coronavirus.
In Karnataka compared to Thursday, the number of new infections was less on Friday. On Thursday, more than 2,000 new cases were reported in Karnataka. On Friday, 1,890 new cases were recorded and 34 people lost their lives. In Bengaluru 426 new cases were registered and nine people died. The positivity rate in Karnataka is 1.30% while the death rate is 1.79%.
Except Bengaluru, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district have recorded more cases with 345 and 156 new cases respectively on Friday. As more cases are reported in Kerala, strict vigil is kept on Kerala borders of Dakshina Kannada district.
The health department is resorting to Sero survey in the state in order to know the presence of Novel coronavirus in individuals. The survey will start on August 1 and end in two weeks’ time. In every district, 1,000 people will be tested. This will be in preparation for the third wave. It is said that many people were infected during the second wave so they might have developed antibodies.
