Muslim family in Karnataka performs baby shower ceremony of Hindu girl

Davangere, Jul 30 (IANS): A Muslim family in Karnataka has won a million hearts by performing "seemantha" (baby shower ceremony) of a Hindu girl according to Hindu traditions.

The video has gone viral on social media and the act of the Muslim couple is being hailed by one and all.

Davangere residents Naseema Banu, a homemaker and Anees Pasha, an advocate, are the couple who made the noble gesture.

Anees Pasha has known the Hindu couple Pavithra and Satish Arvind, who are into social activism for quite a while. He discussed the matter of Pavithra being pregnant and missing the rituals performed during pregnancy as theirs was a love marriage.

Naseema Banu decided to perform the ritual at her residence and her husband Anees Pasha supported her.

The Hindu couple were invited last week for the seemantha function. Naseema Banu and her relatives gifted Pavithra a new set of bangles, gave her flowers and also performed "mangal aarti". (An auspicious act of lighting a fire to ward off negative energy)

Pavithra was gifted a new saree and after the ceremony, everyone sat together for dinner.

After the ceremony, an elated Pavithra explained that all women needed love and affection during pregnancy. "Naseema Banu and Anees Pasha took pains to celebrate my "seemantha" function, I am so happy. They are more than family," she said.

Naseema Banu said that though she didn't know about Hindu rituals, she gathered information and did the best she could.

Anees Pasha maintained that "if at all we want to create a society without enmity between religions such acts are necessary."

Pavithra and Satish Arvind actively participate in student-related issues and organise functions to create communal harmony. The couple had married two years ago.

A couple of decades ago, bonhomie between different religions was everyday issue and well appreciated by all. Now politics being succesful in dividing us as Indians we have to celeberate things like this in newspaper headlines. But nevertheless we have to build our house a brick at a time

Charles thank the almighty God we are born in India, were the majority of the population are Hindus, just look around and see what has happened to christians who stayed back in Pakistan and Bangladesh, do not go far off just remember what the despot fanatic tippu did to our fore fathers, when ever the people who follow the cult are in majority they do not allow people of other faith exists. Coming back to the topic my wife's baby shower ceremony was performed by her Hindu classmates that is nothing new in India, it becomes news when muslims perform.

"20% have to fill in for 80%... What is the reason..." Dear K b r, MangalA uru, the reason is.... 80% is greater than 20% only in numbers, not in wealth. Even then, that 80% helping to each other in many such situation which usually is not reported through media.... Any way what this couple did is a very good job, really appreciable. Such people are the real followers of religion.

Even Portugal couldn't develop for mixing religion and politics. Where as Britain is far ahead of Portugal because they never committed atrocities in the name of religion.

Keshav. Muslim follows Monotheism, not Polytheism as it is strictly forbidden. These Muslim couples might have studied well about the ritual whether it will class with Monotheism before they went ahead with this rituals for their neighbor. And you are saying hidden agenda. The followers of Monotheism can have no hidden agenda coz by unintentionally practicing polytheism will b the biggest sin on earth to which there is no forgiveness and why would any want to take ire of Lord? Almighty ? By the way, regarding your Kashmir comment. These couples are not from Kashmir and Kashmir has a totally different issues since pre ndependence.

From what you say it is forbidden for Muslims to participate in Hindu customs as it invariably involves some Hindu deities. That being the case, any practicing Muslim knowing that he commits shirk, would not risk doing this. then why is he doing this?. So the inference taken by Keshav seems to be correct.
