Mangaluru, Jul 30: As the districts in the state along Kerala border are witnessing a steady increase in the number of Covid-19 cases, Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner (DC) Dr Rajendra K V and police commissioner N Shashi Kumar visited Talapady check post to review the Covid situation on Friday July 30.
Speaking to media persons, DC Dr Rajendra said, “As Covid-19 positive cases are increasing in Kasargod district and in Kerala state. Even in Dakshina Kannada, the positivity rate is increasing. Hence, as a precautionary measure, to contain the spread of the virus, we are thinking of imposing additional restrictions after holding a meeting. We have arranged checking facilities for those who come to the district on a regular basis. Those who have not taken vaccines or do not have RT-PCR negative report will be checked at the check post. We have arranged testing spots at four borders of the district. As cases are increasing, I visited the check posts to review the situation to implement additional restrictions. We have organised a meeting with the senior officials today. Along with that, testing will also be increased. We are thinking of implementing additional restrictions and will also recommend the same to the government. We will also discuss the issue in tomorrow's district disaster management authority meeting."
The DC also said that a clear statement will be issued after holding meetings with the health and other senior officials on imposing additional restrictions on people visiting religious centers, inter-state bus movements, and other mass gatherings. “Every day we conduct 7,000 to 8,000 tests in the district. The administration will increase testing. As cases are increasing in Kerala, the district administration is taking proper measures to contain the spread of the virus," he said.
Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, "Under the limits of Mangaluru commissionerate, six check posts have been set up to check the spread of Covid-19 virus. These check posts function 24*7 in three shifts. Additional staff have been deployed at the Talapady check post as the number of vehicles travelling on these roads are more. We have set up the check posts at railway stations and internal roads connecting Kerala. As the positivity rate in the district is on the rise, the area officials have insisted on additional restrictions to contain the spread of the virus. In future, we will effectively implement the guidelines directed by the district administration or by the state government. More importance will be given to adhere to the Covid-19 appropriate behaviour in public places and establishments. The public should act with more responsibility."
