Byndoor, Jul 30: In an incident that was profoundly tragic, the wife ended her life after fighting with her husband on the issue of providing mobile phones to the children.

Sushmitha (35), daughter of Surendra Shetty from Neerkuli House, Kalthodu, ended her life in this case. Her husband, Vijay Shetty, works for a hotel in Mumbai. Vijay had come back due to prolonged lockdown. Vijay used to give mobile phones to the children as and when they requested. This had become the bone of contention between the duo, over the last sometime.

On Wednesday, the couple again fought on the issue. Sushmitha took Vijay to task on Wednesday morning for giving mobile phone to the children. The two had a major confrontation on the issue. Frustrated by this routine, Vijay announced that he would be returning to Mumbai. He began to stuff his bag with his clothes for the purpose. Sushmitha who apparently grew angry, went into a room and locked herself in that room. Even though the family members repeatedly knocked at the door, she did not open it.

Later, the people broke the window glasses and peeped in. They found that Sushmitha had hanged herself from the ceiling fan with the help of a nylon rope. She was immediately brought down and rushed to the government hospital at Kundapur where she was admitted. She was then taken to Manipal hospital. However, without showing signs of recovery, Sushmitha breathed her last on Thursday July 29 morning, a complaint filed with the Byndoor police station stated.

I really feel sad this woman ended her life for a very trivial issue. There is no issue that cant be solved through mutual counselling. I feel all suicides can be prevented. Feeling very sad

Here both are at fault.Poor man came home after a long time, because of a silly reason of Mobile both quarreled.she too should have some understanding for children and husband. He must have got frustrated because of misunderstanding and fight of wife, other side children wanted out of this fight arena .That again made wife wild and took last step-.Both didnt have any understanding that children will be the most sufferers in it.Why wife couldnt understand nowadays mobile is important in schools for schooling .?Now one cant bring her back to say sorry,or children ,husband too will be suffering .May God give enough strenght to bear the loss of their mother ,wife ,to the family.May she find peace in Heaven.

This so called attitude where " whatever i say is right and shud be followed " is the biggest problem..Even though wife is right in her argument but this impulsive behaviour is dangerous which ultimately led her to.take this extreame step. Poor husband must be cursing his life

AJ, Mangalore, yes attitude. 95% problems of life are due to the tone of voice, it is not what we say, it is how we say. When we change the tone, we can see the change in life. When we argue, it is to find "Who is right". But when we discuss, the result is "What is right". Unfortunately, a large proportion of men and women in India, do not have access to marriage preparation courses, when they enter marriage.

Misunderstanding coupled with economic hardship is a lethal combination for stubborn couples. It could have been any petty reason for this extreme step. domestic violence too has skyrocketed after the lockdown. everything is interlinked , government should announce more relief package for lower middle class and poor citizens.
