Hassan, Jul 29: The police personnel of Gorur station here succeeded in getting a Kerala-based fruit vendor released from the clutches of the kidnappers who were taking him in a car from Kasargod and had placed a demand for ransom.

The fruit vendor who escaped unharmed was Anwar. On the basis of information received from Kasargod deputy superintendent of police, Sunil Kumar, the Gorur police along with the public, tried to stop the said car which came towards Gorur from Udupi on Wednesday. At that time, Anwar jumped out of the car and escaped. Two kidnappers abandoned the car near Konapura located in the Hemavathi reservoir backwaters in Gorur before escaping, said Gorur station sub-inspector, Sagar.

The kidnappers believed that the fruit vendor in question, Anwar, had a lot of money with him. They had kidnapped him on Tuesday in his own car. After they demanded ransom payment of two lac rupees, he conveyed this information to his wife over mobile phone. His wife contacted Kasargod police and complained. On the basis of mobile phone location, Kasargod police called Hassan assistant superintendent of police, Nandini, it is said. Arrangements to stop the car at Gorur were made with the help of barricades and blocking the path with a truck. But the accused escaped at high speed. Noting that the police were chasing them, the kidnappers abandoned the car and ran away. In this case, the Gorur police have come in for praise for their prompt action.
