Bantwal: Two drug peddlers arrested, ganja, auto-rickshaw seized

Bantwal, Jul 28: Vittal police arrested two persons in connection with smuggling 2.060 kg ganja worth Rs 60,000 and seized an auto-rickshaw used in the crime.

Asif alias Achi (28), a resident of near Gurumandira in Sajeepa Mooda and Faraz (23) from Chapalla Masjid, Mavanthoor Savanoor village Kadaba taluk, are the accused.

It is said that when the police were checking vehicles, they tried to stop the auto-rickshaw which was moving to Vittal city from Ukkada in Kasaba village near Kashimutt. One of the accused, who was driving the auto, after seeing the police, took a U-turn hurriedly. As a result, he lost control over the auto which toppled 30 meters away.

When the police rushed to the spot to rescue them, the duo tried to flee from the spot. While the police personnel questioned them further, the accused revealed that they had concealed ganja beneath the driver’s seat in the auto.

The police have seized items worth Rs 2,10,000.
