Mangaluru: Commuters to pay more as private operators hike bus fares

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Jul 26: The fares for private buses in the district have been increased as per the new orders issued by Regional Transport Authority.

Dakshina Kannada and Canara Bus Association and Udupi Karavali Bus Owners’ Association had demanded to increase the fares. The demand was kept forward several times. The authority finally considered the demand and order a new revised bus fare for private buses which will implemented from July 26.

The order also instructs to collect a minimum of Rs 0.4 paise from the passengers of the buses which ply across toll plazas.

For city buses, the earlier fare was Rs 7 for travelling within 2 kilometres which has now been increased to Rs 12 and Rs 15 for 2-6 kilometres. The order is applicable even for rural areas.

The others changes are Rs 16 for 6-8 kilometres, Rs 18 for 8-10 kilometres, Rs 19 for 10-12 kilometres, Rs 20 for 12-14 kilometres, Rs 21 for 14-16 kilometres, Rs 22 for 16-18 kilometres and Rs 23 for 18-20 kilometres.

This makes the daily commuters who are not paid conveyance face real difficulty. In any case the pandemic has made it difficult to get back the jobs and it is for the ruling government to see their citizens to be comfortable. But now it looks like they will go on imposing taxes as long as the tricky politics ways are not objected or compensation is sought.

Raising bus fare is unfair. Most of the people have lost their jobs. Over that every commodities prices have been increased. Buying anything from the market is out of reach from the ordinary people. (Aam Aadmi). shame on this bus associations and shame on this gobernment.

When diesel prices have skyrocketed what can the bus operators do ? PM has removed 40% concession for senior citizen men and 50% concession for senior citizen women in railway journey. Also, children between the ages 5 and 12 were getting half ticket with a seat. But now, if half ticket is purchased there is no seat. If seat is required for children, full ticket fare is to be paid. This is the penalty for citizens now. Ache din aane waale hai. There is news circulating that the govt will take over all unregistered properties. Have you registered your marriage ?

Dear Adrian, People who are paying tax are taxed heavily. We pay 30% Income tax and GST for every goods and services we consume. So we end up paying approx 45% in taxes ( Not counting the high fuel taxes). Even after paying so much taxes we are left with nothing. We dont get any pensions from the govt even after paying these taxes. Whereas you get a tax free income in UAE. So please dont preach again burdering the honest tax payers like us specially the employee class. The professionals like doctors, CAs, Lawyers etc know how to evade tax and most of them accept thier consulation fees in cash which they dont show. No wonder they buy big cars and duplex and file IT returns for much lower amount. Only 3% of Indians pay income tax that's the truth my friend Adrian

It's rediculous increase ticket fare like this in 2020 April already increased Rs.3/ per every ten rupees. Because of covid buses will take less passengers but took passengers on foot board till March 21 made enough money. Now private busses again try to increase giving an excuse Diesel rate hike. Private busses have many other endless problems like permit, road tax, staff salaries, maintenance, wear tear expenditure and less business in after 9 am.till 5 pm. Either fight for slash Diesel prices people will support. Or concern authorities bring more KSRTC norm busses on road in interst of public and interest of public bus companies. I hope problem will solve within no time. Just try for Six months.

This is directly due to exorbitant higher fuel prices imposed by BJP govt even when international price for fuel is down.

Irrespective of damages caused yet these blind bhakts will vote the same party coz for them its a pride for voting their party as they believe they will destroy minorities and bring them some luck and richness of full happiness and wealth. Upper caste will support BJP no matter whatever destruction be, as they won't have any effect as their siblings, kids are well settled in US, UK and other countries and those who are here having good jobs in private as well public sector. So they will not bother, and they will make vote other cast people by showing only one picture that your enemy is minority.
