Belagavi, Jul 25: Amidst speculation that the leadership change in Karnataka may happen sooner than expected, chief minister Yediyurappa on Sunday July 25 said that he was expecting a message from BJP high command in this regard by same evening.
The chief minister was speaking to the media during his visit to the district to survey the damage caused due to the prevailing floods.
"BJP high command will send its decision on Sunday evening. The next chief minister will be known from the message. There is no need for Swamijis to hold meetings and conventions. I have faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah," he said.
To the question on whether his tenure of two years has brought satisfaction to him, Yediyurappa smiled and said, "If my work has satisfied you people, that is enough for me."
Responding to a query on the corruption allegations against Shashikla Jolle in the matter of tender for eggs, Yediyurappa said, "I have come across this news in media. I will assess the reality and take decision."
With regard to the devastation caused by rain and floods, the chief minister said, "In some districts the amount of rainfall is more. So the rivers are overflowing causing damage to the low lying areas and people living near the banks. Today the rains have reduced. I pray to God to reduce the rains and allow people to live a peaceful life."
It is almost certain that Yediyurappa will resign on the evening of Monday, July 26, and probably on Sunday evening itself. However, close aides of the CM are of the opinion that the central BJP leadership will wait for some more days as it would not be proper on their part to ask Yediyurappa to resign when he is visiting flood-affected districts of the state.
Another probability is that Yediyurappa may continue as caretaker CM till August 15, even if he is asked to resign on Sunday or Monday, till a new leader is selected. According to some sources, Ashada month as per Hindu calendar is on till August 8. As this month is considered inauspicious in Hindu tradition, a new CM may not take oath during this period.
Another source says that union minister Prahlad Joshi will take part in the parliament session till August 13. After that he may resign and take charge as CM of Karnataka.
In the midst of these developments, sources said that Yediyurappa's son B Y Vijayendra has visited Delhi. According to one source, he went to Gujarat and not Delhi. However, another source said that he went to Delhi on some personal work. It is not clear whom Vijayendra met in Delhi.
