Bengaluru, Jul 24: Even as the ruling BJP in Karnataka is all set to effect a change of leadership in the State after two years in power, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Chief D K Shivakumar asked partymen to get ready to face any situation in the near future.
Addressing a divisional level conference of Congress party leaders and workers of Tumakuru, Chitradura, Davangere, Chkkaballapur and Kolar district at Tumakuru on Saturday, he said the ruling BJP’s decision to effect a change of leadership after two years of Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa’s reign is indicative of the fact that the State has not received a good government and the party’s central leadership itself is not happy with Yediyurappa rule.
"The last two years of Yediyurappa rule is the most corrupt in the State," Shivakumar said and asked the Congress rank and file to get ready to face any eventuality.
AICC General Secretary Randeeep Singh Surjewala, Congress opposition leader in the State Assembly Siddaramaiah, opposition leader in the Legislative Council S R Patil, senior party leaders M Veerappa Moily, K H Muniyappa, former Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwar, KPCC Working President Saleem Ahmed, Dhurvanarayan and other leaders participated in the conference.
Shivakumar said the divisional level conference of Congress leaders and workers should have been started from Mangaluru but the conference scheduled to be held in Mangaluru on Friday had to be cancelled in view of the necessity to visit senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes, who is hospitalised. The divisional level conference starting from Tumakuru will be held in Hubballi, Mysuru and Mangaluru in the coming days, he said.
The KPCC Chief it was the duty of all Congress party workers to fight for the cause of the people and said the party was preparing action plans and strategies for all districts. The Zilla Panchayat elections and polls other local body elections are scheduled to be held and all party workers must get ready for any development.
Referring to BJP’s plans for change of leadership in the State, Shivakumar said the ruling party leaders are busy lobbying for positions and power. "Let them play their power games. But Congress workers must not worry about what BJP is doing. We must fight for the people and let us not interfere in their activities and concentrate on strengthening the party," he said.
