In BSY's support, Lingayat seers to hold massive convention to exert pressure on BJP

Bengaluru, Jul 24 (IANS): Amid intense speculation about a possible leadership change in Karnataka, several seers of the Veerashaiva-Lingayat community on Friday decided to organise religious heads convention on Sunday (July 25) in what is seen as sending out a loud and clear message to BJP party high command not to remove Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa.

This convention is seen as a last ditch effort to save Yediyurappa from resigning after July 26. Yediyurappa had maintained that he has not received any message from party high command till date but he was in anticipation of their message on July 25 (Sunday) evening, and until then he would be performing his duty.

After a meeting with like-minded seers here, Sri Dingaleshwar Swami, the seer of Balehosur Matha, told reporters that a group of pontiffs belonging all sects will be meeting on Saturday to deliberate on the agenda of the Sunday's convention.

"This will be the first of its kind, and deliberate on a host of several issues that are bogged down by various communities in the state. Besides, it may also discuss the present political scenario as well," he said.

According to him, the daylong deliberations by seers on Saturday will finalise the agenda of the convention.

Another prominent Lingayat seer, Rudramuni Sri of Tiptur Matha, said that Lingayat Mathas have given their own contributions to the society and whenever there is "confusion" prevails in the society or in the state, people do look towards religious heads to sort out such confusion.

"Our prime agenda will be in the welfare of the society and state... nothing else. It is not in favour or against anyone," he said cryptically but added that the convention would speak on the present political turmoil in the state too.

Answering to a question, Dingaleshwara seer that there is nothing wrong in religious heads speaking on political issues. "There is no such thing that separates religion or philosophy. We religious heads do visit politicians to get works done for the welfare of society so, in turn, politicians meet us to seek guidance. There is no difference. Even going by your (media) speculation that we are holding a convention to seekA extension of term for Yediyurappa, what is wrong in it?" he asked.

Who are the root cause to bringing religion into politics. Who always getting votes in the name of religious place of worship, always putting fear in the mind, telling that their religion is in danger etc etc. The national organisation, which boast about discipline based on religion and always said, they are not supporting any political party, what happening today. Aren't they directly involved supporting one political party. Politics and religion should not mix.

COMPARATIVELY lingayat CMs have been better than other CMs of KN... even yeddiji even though part of 'party of communal hatred', personally did not utter hatred on other religions... moreover he kept nagpur gulaamas under check... RSS stooge santhosha pinthosha did not get chance to enter KN politics... even fire man of MLR was always wary of the old man... moreover he cut to size that telugu monsters and mineral thief gang of reddy family and their minion srirama... even that lowlife c t ravi was packed off out of KN politics... of course the old man is young at heart... every one has weaknesses...

@Jeevan.... Looks like you have lost your senses... Since when did Muslim clergies started giving Fatwa to vote for a particular party? Had you visited any Mosque to attend prayer or to do spying? Don't speak non sense when you don't know the fact.... By the way you should have this common sense atleast that Muslims too support different parties and has leaders in different parties, so if any clergy gives fatwa favoring one party then there will be chaos and that clergy will be removed from his duty permanently....

BJP is the party which made many seers / swamijis wearing religious robe (including some fake) MLAs, MPs, Ministers, CM etc.etc. etc. Religious monks/sadhwis have been given tickets to join politics and hold positions... Religious pontiffs and all kinds of "swami', mahant", "maaraj" etc etc. etc. were used by BJP for party politics (of hate) and electioneering... BJP used region for politics... now BJP should be willing to be used by Religious personalities for their own agendas....

This is a new phenomenon and at the same time not healthy for KARNATAKA POLITICS - Already we have had 4 dominant groups as can be seen by the CM's from these groups - in KARNATAKA -- Lingayat - Vokkaliga - Backward Caste - Brahmin- not possible in general for others even if one has all the merits -- FINALLY ---- "Mixing religion and politics is like mixing ice cream and manure. It doesn't do much to the manure but it sure does ruin the ice cream", ---An old quote

Aam Aadmi, Mangalore . Come on yaar!! Around the world when it comes to terrorism there is only ONE common factor. I have never seen RSS kill 150 people at one time, suicide bomb attacks, come as immigrants and turn the host country to a terror breeding region, drive truck on revellers, ram airplane into building, take sex slaves. We all know who they are.

BJP is party of religious politics... they should be prepared to face intervention by religious personalities in their actions/policies... when a party does religious politics, how can they ask religious sects to stay away... when Udupi Mutts and many other mutt swamijis/sadhwis are vocal in political views, why not Lingayat mutts...

These seers should remember that their open support and backing of a politician to continue in chief minister`s post is definitely going to further damage his reputation and will not help him any way. This also leads to a doubt in our mind, how these religious people are affected by who sits on CM chair??
