Mangalore, Sep 8: The Center for Advanced Studies in Commerce and Management (CASCM) of Canara College, in association with Mangalore University College Teachers (AMUCT), organized a two-day national conference on ‘Social Responsibilities of Educational Institutions’ at T V Raman Pai Convention Centre, Kodialbail, on Tuesday September 7.
Convener of CASCM Dejamma welcomed the gathering and Dr M Abdul Rahiman, former vice-chancellor, Kannur and Calicut University, inaugurated the programme.
He delivered the keynote address and said that teachers should concentrate on communicative English rather then literary English as English connects India to the world.
“Teachers should take up responsibilities to train students in extra curricular activities and create moral and ethical values in a student to make him a perfect citizen”, he added.
S S Kamath, the correspondent of Canara College, presided over the function. Several scholars, experts, and educationists, conducted seminars on the role of universities and government, role of parents and parent-teacher associations, and extension activities of educational institutions.
National convener of ‘Prajna Pravaah’ and member of Karnataka legislative council P V Krishna Bhatta, conveners Prof Ummappa Poojary P and Seema Prabhu S, along with Dr G N Bhat and general secretary of AMUCT Dr Denis Fernandes, were present on the occasion.
