New Delhi, Sep 2 (IANS): The Indian Railways have bagged the second position in an international shooting event held in Krakow, Poland from Aug 23 to Aug 27, an official statement said Thursday.
A leading partner in the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games, Indian Railways secured 8345 points out of 9000 in the USIC (Union of International Railways) International Shooting Championship, securing second berth, said a railway ministry statement.
While Indian Railways lost the first position to their French counterpart merely by 7 points, they beat Germany to the third place by 20 points, the statement added.
The Indian Railways team comprised 12 players besides one coach, one manager along with chef-de-mission.
While the Indian Railways team won gold in three events out of five - Air Rifle 10M, Air Pistol 10M and .22 Rifle 3-Position 50M, they ranked 8th in the remaining two - .22 Pistol 25M and .22 Rifle Prone 50M.
In the individual category, two Indian Railways' players ranked first - Anuja Jung in air rifle and Vishwajeet Shinde in rifle 3-position. Two others stood 3rd - Ashok Karande in Air Rifle and Yogesh Sudake in Air Pistol.
In the last USIC championship held at Zurich in Switzerland, 2006, Indian Railways had ranked 5th.
