Bengaluru, Jun 16: The term of Karnataka governor, Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala, over a year and half back. However, he continues to be in the Raj Bhavan here as no one has been posted in his place so far.
Raj Bhavan happens to be a cosy building with all the amenities, a beautiful garden and many servants. The central government has stayed away from choosing Vala's successor so far.
Vala took over charge of the state in September, 2014. At the end of his term in 2019, no order was issued but there were rumours that his stay would be extended for a year. Even though names of some BJP leaders like former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Uma Bharti and former Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan, cropped up, so far no one has been picked to replace him.
Those visiting the Raj Bhavan claim that the Raj Bhavan now is full of employees speaking Gujarati and Hindi, and as such, it has lost the Kannada atmosphere it is expected to have. It is said that the governor is continuing to serve the state on the basis of the clause in the appointment order which says that his term of office would be until further orders. In this case, no order has been passed to replace him and therefore he continues in this post.
