Udupi district in unlock-1 mode, public presence sparse on streets

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (JD/SP)

Udupi, Jun 14: Lockdown norms in the district have been eased from today in the light of improved Covid19 situation. Shops in the district have been allowed more time. People can now make their purchases of essentials, vegetables, milk, provisions etc till 2 pm.

Building materials sale including cement has now been allowed. The deputy commissioner, however, has issued strict instructions to officials that when transacting business, shops have to strictly abide by the Covid norms.

On the first day of unlock-1, the movement of people is seen to be sparse. Torrential rainfall experienced by the district has contributed further to the less number of people on the roads.

All the previous lockdown guidelines will continue to be followed till June 21. People can now travel by auto rickshaws and taxis subject to a maximum of two passengers at a time. At the same time, the people have been reminded that they cannot move around unnecessarily under the cover of unlock.

I would say we have been moderately successful in controlling COVID 19 in Udupi. By and large Udupi did well However we must not forget that we need to continue social distancing hand washing and must use masks Together we shall beat COVID 19
