Udupi: India's first home-made seaplane damaged by Cyclone Tauktae

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Jun 13: The country's first home-made single-seater seaplane 'Druthi', built by a team of youngsters here, was unfortunately damaged by Cyclone Tauktae which recently hit the coastal Karnataka region.

The microlight seaplane was built by a team of young and enthusiastic youths from Hejamady and is said to be the first in India. The youths had put in their money to construct the plane and had even successfully completed a trial run in the Shambhavi river in Hejamady.

As per sources, the recent cyclone and heavy winds caused severe damages to the plane. Pushparaj Ameen, a young enthusiast was the one who led the team of eight members, which included professional trainee pilots, yacht pilots and drone flyers.

The team had spent more than Rs 7 to 8 lac for this project. They had also plans to build the plane with better features with the help of government resources. As this microlight seaplane was completely built from scratch and was light-weight, the cyclonic winds and intense rains damaged it severly.

As per reports in the media, the team is now facing a financial crisis as the members had borrowed loans from various financial sources for this project. The Karnataka government had even sanctioned Rs 5 lac for this invention, but the amount never reached them.

Even though the team confirmed the incident, they declined to comment further on the matter.

Charles D'Mello, Pangala : This is not only by current govt. even since 1947 these things happened. and still I don't understand one point... how a person become Gandhi, where Gandhi is not their fly name since that persons great grandfathers time and even spouse is from other religion, just for the sake of getting votes... Could you please put light on these matters as well. If they are true Gandhi fly then even they might get increased vote share in future elections, if you can explain how the surname was changed... :)

Firstly why should Govt fund such projects, just to copy an existing "ultra light" high winger? These planes are available across the counter in India...why should they fund someone's child hood dream to build? My child hood dream was to build a Truck...will Govt fund me for that?...LOL This project is a scam...there was no need for any funding Reasons 1- what will the community benefit 2- what use of such a uncertified flying object ( it can never be used for any application/ no insurance will be covered ...ONLY A JOLLY RIDE FOR THE BUILDER 3- who approved this project? 4- what certification did this project have During this pandemic same money could bring more Vaccine into the state...

At the moment the Government is in the process of making money. Once they make money and all the politicians pockets are filled, then they may get the promised money. Till then they have to wait. Sad to know that our Government doesn't have 5 lakhs to give to these young engineers.

This happens no matter which party is ruling as government, there are always some corrupted politicians or officials who will eat the money themselves.
