Mangaluru, Jun 13: Financial institutions like banks are one of the most essential sectors operating during this pandemic. During these trying times, they facilitated monetary transactions by their dedicated services to the people. Considered as one of the essential sectors, a vaccination drive was held for all the bankers on Saturday, June 12 at the MCC Bank admin building.
The drive began with a small formal programme. Guest for the inauguration was the mayor of the Mangalore City Corporation, Premanand Shetty and deputy district health officer, Dr Rajesh. The drive was inaugurated by the lighting of the lamp.
The mayor addressing the gathering lauded the organisers for conducting such a needful drive. He stated that the banks are one of the important sectors and the employees are warriors rendering their services to the people. The mayor also extended best wishes to everyone present.
Dr Rajesh speaking during the occasion said, "Covid-19 vaccination is one of the largest vaccination drive in the world. Getting vaccinated will keep us safe against the infection and will help us in this fight against the pandemic." He mentioned the benefits of the vaccine and urged the people to remain positive. "Smallpox was eradicated in the same way, let us also fight to eradicate Covid-19," he added.
The first shot of the drive was administered to DGM of MCC Bank Ltd, Raj Menezes. The medical team consisted of medical officers, Dr Soujanya and Dr Raihan, staff, nurses, Sunitha and Shashikala, pharmacists, Shobha Asha and Safnaz.
Anil Lobo, chairman of MCC Bank Ltd, Harish Acharya, chairman, Vishwakarma Co-op Bank, Praveen Kumar, lead bank manager, Chitharanjan, president of Athmashakthi Multipurpose Cooperative Ltd were present during the occasion.
The credit manager of MCC Bank, Deril Lasrado compered the program. Nearly 400 employees of various banks and co-operative societies were administered with the Covishield vaccine.
Gratitude was extended to the deputy registrar of Dakshina Kannada District Co-Operative Societies, Praveen B Nayak and lead bank manager, Praveen Kumar for taking up the initiative to organise this drive. The district administration, district health department and Yekkur primary health centre were thanked for their support.
