Mangaluru, Jun 12: District Congress led by former MLC Ivan D’Souza will carry out a padayatra from Mallikatte Congress office to Rao & Rao Circle petrol pump on Monday June 14 protesting against the central government over rising fuel prices.

Addressing media here on Saturday June 12, Ivan D’Souza said, “The government is looting the poor. A record was broken in fuel prices when it touched Rs 100 mark. The hike in fuel price is a burden to all sections of the society. The central government should reduce the fuel prices that will help the economy. Earlier during the time of the UPA government, even when a barrel of crude oil cost $140, the cost if petrol was Rs 70. And today when the crude oil prices are low, it has touched Rs 100.

“The central government has taken such decisions during these testing times of the pandemic which has turned out to be a burden for the common man which indicates that the government is fooling people.

“We will hold a padayatra from Mallikatte Congress office to Rao & Rao Circle petrol pump on Monday June 14 as a protest against the central government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked to clap, light candles and bang vessels to fight the pandemic. We follow the same during our protest,” he said.

Congress leaders Shashidhar Hegde, Sahul Hameed, Naveen D’Souza, Mohammed Kunjathbail, Appi, Subhodaya Alva and others were present.

The Congress has to go through large scale transformation and be recognised as an effective opposition. If not for themselves atleast for the nation and for the people who still believe in the Congress. If Congress doesnt strengthen, then our nation is in big trouble. The BJP knows this and know that come what may, with a weak opposition the country or its people can't do anything. Atrocities of the BJP govt is going through the roof. They are so audacious they dont even answer questions or objections raised by the opposition or the citizens. If there was a steong opposition, all this would never happen.

There is nothing wrong in Congress. Its fake propaganda and media makes you believe in it. Every major parties have issues and they are internal to party......... People have to look at ideology, honesty and proven record of governance of the party. ........After 7 years there shouldn't be any excuse for failing economy........ Just look at Iran how khomeni came to power on promise of vikaas and look at the country now, even people voted for him are suffering with no freedoms.

It is very clear govt making mockery of public grievances .. Every election there is a calculation Whom to pocket Which group Vote bank / rhetoric .. nationalism etc .. thereafter ...after winning .. decisions without a care of electorate ..difficulty faced ..etc .. Zero interaction. .. only radio. Talks .. mann ki baat .. Regarding.. Opposition. Unfortunately no sizeable leader to put the govt on the mat .. No good ideas .... Only recently Bengal elections Mrs Banerjee has stood up ..

If there are 4 petrol pump in the city, Govt should reserve 1 petrol pump, exclusively for the people, who say "Even if Petrol price hits 500 per ltr, I will pay & help my nation"! - The rest 3 petrol pumps should be for common people, who can not afford to pay as Modi bhakths do!! - In this process, Govt can identify, who are kind hearted people, who generously pay, whatever charges govt implement, in "nations interest". Those highest payers can be then be Rewarded or Awarded with "Top desh bhath of nation"!!!

Though I support the cause, it should be done by some valiant and dynamic leaders who can deliver with a punch. If not it will just be a damp squib. Just 10-15 people walking for 4-5kms and shouting their lungs out. What can one expect to achieve. Meanwhile its also a doubt on how the Covid protocol will be followed? Wrong timing , the gen public may blame the party irrespective of any affiliation.

Protests have to be massive . If not it wont create any impact or produce results. The padayathra sort of exercise which Ivan is calling for will be forgotten after 10 minutes. Especially with the position of the party now , both in center and in the state.
