Mangaluru, Jun 11: Railway additional director general of police (ADGP) of Karnataka, Bhaskar Rao, has suggested to fix high efficiency CCTV cameras in railway stations and other areas connected with the railways where the crowd happens to be big.

During his visit to the city on Thursday, he conducted a meeting of railway police officials at the central station, distributed anti-Covid safety gear to them, and spoke to media persons.

He said that the CCTV cameras already installed in railway stations and coaches are not satisfactory. He said that deaths on tracks and theft of items of passengers have been a great challenge for the railway police, and that steps are taken to stop them.

He said that protection of passengers on Konkan railway section poses a challenge as the law and order of the railway system between Jokatte and Karwar is not in their control. Because of this, it becomes harder to stop criminal activities happening on this stretch. Therefore, there is a need to transfer safety of this section of the railway to the state railway police, he felt.

He said at Bhatkal later that he had travelled from Udupi by train to check the need for addtionkal security because of various tunnels and naxal areas falling on the Konkan railway route.

Railway police deputy superintendent of police Ashok, inspector Mohan Kottary, and others were present.
