Mangaluru: NMAMIT to host FDP on gender equity

Mangaluru, Jun 8: The department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, NMAM Institute of Technology, NITTE invites faculty and research scholars for a Faculty Development Program (FDP) of five days which is sponsored by the ATAL Academy on the topic 'Gender Equity: Challenges and Opportunities for Women in Decision Making' from July 26 to 30. The faculty development programme has been designed to give an extensive overview of gender equity in the present world.

Dr Niranjan N Chiplunkar, principal of the institute and Dr Nagesh Prabhu, head of the department of E&E along with the course coordinator Dr Anitha Marina Colaco have initiated and designed the programme schedule. Many experts from various reputed institutes and industries will deliver interesting sessions during the workshop.

Outline of the course
Gender equity is not only a fundamental human right but a necessary foundation for a peaceful and sustainable world. The exclusion of women places half of the world’s population outside the realm of opportunity to partner in building prosperous societies and economies. Equal access to education, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes are not only rights the women should have, they benefit humanity at large. This FDP provides a platform to undertake reforms to give women equal rights to economic resources, as well as access to ownership and control over land and other forms of property, financial services, inheritance and natural resources, in accordance with national laws. The course looks to widen the use of enabling technology, in particular information and communication technology, to promote the empowerment of women. It also emphasizes adaptation and strengthens sound policies and enforceable legislation for the promotion of gender equity and the empowerment of all women and girls at all levels.

Please note: There is no registration fee. The participants have to register through the ATAL portal and a maximum number of participants is restricted to 200. Certificates shall be issued to those participants who have attended the programme with minimum 80% attendance and scored a minimum of 60% marks on the test.
