Mangaluru, Jun 1: Chief whip of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), Sudhir Shetty, on Tuesday June 1, alleged that a former mayor and a former MLC created confusion at the primary health center (PHC) at Bejai on Monday May 31.
Addressing a press meet here, he said, "We have witnessed how the state government and the district administration have worked to control the spread of coronavirus. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, and MLAs Vedavyasa Kamath and Dr Y Bharat Shetty have worked immensely to provide the additional ventilators, oxygen-generating unit, oxygen storing tanks through the programme 'Vaidyara Nade Halliya Kade' during the pandemic.
“A task force committee was formed in all the 60 wards of the MCC under the leadership of the MLAs and mayor Premananda Shetty. MPW and ASHA workers along with the corporators distributed medicine kits to Covid-19 patients. We have also seen the MCC distributing ration, medicine and food to those who are alone at home.
“Through the district health center, vaccines are provided twice a week at PHCs. The district administration published this news in the media. A former mayor made several people to gather at the premises of the PHC at Bejai by sharing the details of vaccination on Facebook and WhatsApp. Later, he along with a former MLC, made Congress workers to gather and protest at the premises of the PHC. The district BJP condemns this act.
"Why did you not speak when the state president of your party ridicule the vaccine? In the beginning, your former minister said that let the prime minister take the vaccine first. Later he himself took the vaccine at his home by misusing power.
“BJP condemns the attack on Dr Jayaprakash by Youth Congress activist Asif. Congress has not condemned that attack on the PDO of Mallur gram panchayat. Due to the Prime Minister's special interest, Covishield and Covaxin vaccines were manufactured within 8 months under the concept of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Already 20.9 crore people are vaccinated in the first phase. In the coming two months, vaccines will be provided to everyone.
“The Congress instead of misleading the people and holding a protest in front of the PHC, should join hands with the district administration to contain the spread of Covid-19. Congress should not involve in such cheap politics,” he said.
