Mangaluru, May 26: The international airport here, which had been allotted 29th rank in the year 2019-20, has slipped to No. 31 in the year 2020-21 in the ranking list of 50 top airports with highest passenger traffic in India.
During the year 2019-20, this airport was allotted the 29th ranking in the ranking list of 50 airports in the country with highest passenger traffic. The airport has further slipped to 31st spot this time.
During the year 2020-21, the airport saw a decline of 67.2 percent as far as number of passengers handled. As against 18,76,294 passengers it handled the previous year, only 6,14,845 passengers were handled in 2020-21.
The airport had bagged 18th rank in the year 2013-14. In 2012-13, 2014-15 and 2015-16, it had been ranked 21st. In 2016-17 it was allotted 25th rank followed by No. 23 in 2017-18 and No. 27 the next year.
In the year 2020-21, 1,52,434 international passengers utilised the services of this airport, which was 73.3 percent less as compared to 5,71,226 registered in 2019-20. It is learnt that the ranking has gone down on account of the adverse effects of lockdown and significant reduction in the movement of passengers, resulting in reduced number of flights operated through this airport.
