Udupi, May 20: “Congress is responsible for the failure in vaccination drive. The party spread misinformation about vaccines which caused wastage of 48 lac doses in the country,” said Udupi BJP president, Kuilady Suresh Naik.
Addressing a press meet he said, “At the beginning of vaccination drive, the Congress spread misinformation that the vaccines are not genuine and that they consist of water. Now, is it not the same water that has been injected in DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah? Congress has played with the lives of people."
"The public has already thrown them out of power, now if the party continues to do such things they will be out of the political scene. I urge all the Congress leaders to stop spreading misinformation and work with the people during these difficult times. Udupi Congress vice president, Prakhyath Shetty had said that BJP is providing vaccines to its party members only, Prakhyath Shetty should bring proof before making such statements. Having an ambulance that has Siddaramaiah's face on it does not mean the party is fighting Covid, rather they should be part of the task force committee and work for the people,” he advised.
Speaking about the BJP party’s work in the war against Covid-19 Kuilady said, “We have formed gram panchayat level committees and our party members are working in it. More than 700 members of our party are working in the field. Three teams have been formed at the panchayat level. These teams visit the patients who are in home isolation. They help people in getting vaccinations in primary health centres. Our party members bring to our notice if any inconvenience is faced in PHCs. We are providing oximeters to all the households with Covid positive patients. Our members are visiting these houses on daily basis and are conducting health checkups. Many Covid positive patients in rural areas are seen roaming freely in public. We have requested the DC to provide compulsory identification tags to Covid positive patients. A request is made to DC about giving first priority to handicapped and senior citizens at vaccination centres."
Giving his opinion about the Congress' Covid toolkit Naik said, “A Congress toolkit which aimed to defame BJP and PM Narendra Modi has been exposed. They are uploading photographs of dead bodies and ambulances on social media just to defame the BJP government on a global level. If Congress is thinking of defaming BJP and Modi by doing such things it has got it all wrong. Even Kumaraswamy has warned Congress of their antics. Congress has also said that one can get infected even if they have received both doses of vaccine. Although this not false, the impact of the infection is mild. People should not believe what Congress posts on their social media handles. Believe in the centre and state, we are working to contain the second wave. The state government has been a little slow in preparing for the second wave but we have succeeded in controlling it."
Kuilady Suresh Naik also urged the state government to include bus drivers and conductors in the government's Covid relief package. “Maxicab drivers have been provided with compensation. Truck and other goods carriers are allowed to operate but the private buses have been asked to stop their operation. Due to the first and second wave, the bus owners have been facing severe losses. We have requested the state government to exempt tax for six months, I urge the government to provide relief package to private bus drivers and conductors as well,” he said.
Guruprasad Shetty Katapady, spokesperson, Shivakumar Ambalpady, co-spokesperson, Satyananda Nayak Athrady were present during the press meet.
