Mangaluru: Seven-month pregnant probationary PSI becomes Covid victim

Mangaluru, May 18: In a shocking development, Dakshina Kannada (DK) district police lost the services of a probationary sub-inspector of police to Covid19 on Tuesday may 18.

The probationary sub-inspector, identified as Shamili (24), was a resident of Kolar. Her death due to the pandemic came at 4.30 am today. She had been admitted into R L Jalappa Hospital at Kolar for Covid treatment. She was seven months pregnant and because of this, was not vaccinated.

Shamili had joined the DK police on January 11 this year. She had gone to Kolar on leave. She was admitted into the said hospital on May 2 for Covid treatment. The efforts of the doctors however, went in vain as they could not save her life.

Kolar superintendent of police had paid personal attention in her hospitalization and treatment.

    In india ppl never follow govt guidelince ok. everyone do kola, marraige, festival, babyshower with thousand of people, going hotel, whole day roaming around no reason. end of the day you blame govt. you ppl stop telling all this drama. in the world ppl died meaning less. still countrylike india taking joke.     Covid19 virus , does not recognize man created boundaries... front line warriors, are the first causalities, to this plague, it mercilessly overwhelms any reckless individual, who violates basic guidelines promulgated by the government..The opposition netas instead of cooperating with the Union government, are ambiguously playing, ugly politics for their personal gratification !!! This tragedy is a wake up call for all of us... We have to be vaccinated at the earliest, for getting a herd immunity. Rest in eternal peace !!!!

    I see that you post about this in every article like it's a big achievement. when are they going to revive? After thousands have lost their lives? If they really wanted to do something for people they should have revived it long back when we faced the first wave itself and be prepared with that hospital functioning before second wave hit.

    Good comment. As u sed, revived hospitaI shld hav been functioning from the first wave only....dnt understand how ppl act like blind evenif the clear picture is in front of dem. These ppl just close the eyes for reality and just spport blindly without understanding the effect of their comment on ppl.

    Gone too soon,,,,, Condolences to the near and dear of the deceased. Regarding revival of hospital in Kolar, agree that this should have done during the lock-down period last year; nevertheless, it is better late than never. Credit goes to all the volunteers who participated in the revival. We should also salute the vision of Britishers to build an 800 bed hospital facility in 1880.

    Roshan Udipi,you are right.here in Germany as Corona started,govt had ordered all pregnent,and lactating mothers freed from attending duty in office or KG,With full salary.Could work as home office ,or need not attend duty during working hours.

With some of the incidents I have read, I have a sense of belief that there is a whole new variant in which people pass away within 2-3 days and vaccinations are not effective against it. Some of them with symptoms and some without. Look at the story from NDTV. A young doctor aged 26 years without any health issues, (not vaccinated) passed away within hours of testing positive. 50 doctors have died across India only on 16th May. Most of the countries went to the extent of testing even the tap water to see if contamination is spreading through any other means during the first wave. They took every step to contain the spread. Our politicians are still stuck in 'Go mutra' and 'Gobar'. The health ministry only comes out to do chest thumping when the cases go down, to praise their supreme leader about vaccination donation (actually those were commitments as per the parent company to export to specified countries and not donations) or to promote Coronil.

    Do you really think that a 7 month pregnant women should wear ppe? Have you seen doctors condition after wearing ppe kits? She's pregnant she should have been given leave /work from home. Unfortunate what happened. Condolences to the family
