Mangaluru, May 18: Prof Sathish Kumar Bhandary, chancellor of NITTE deemed to be university opined that production of a vaccine for coronavirus should be given top priority considering the increase in the infection of the second wave of Covid pandemic throughout the country. He also said that the universities should give attention to research based on this subject.
Prof Bhandary was speaking after inaugurating the inter-collegiate level debate on the subject ‘Covid-19 pandemic management (medical oxygen, treatment and vaccination problems)’ that was organized by the Internal Invention Committee (IIC) of Nitte deemed to be university on Monday May 17.
Prof Bhandary further said, “Activities like vaccine invention need to be given top priority at college and university level. This will lead to judicial utilization of social responsibility. Researchers, teachers and students of universities have to shoulder this responsibility jointly.
“Several research organizations all around the globe including Indian institutes have given yeoman contribution in the research of coronavirus vaccination. The numbers should increase further. If one gets involved in activities like this during student life, it will be possible for him/her to reach greater heights in professional life.”
Prof Bhandary appreciated the debate programmes that are held in various universities. He wished that their numbers and frequency should increase.
Dr Sripada G Mehandale, lecturer of Anastasia section of K S Hegde medical college, Dr Anirban Chakraborthy, director of scientific education and research, Nitte deemed to be university, Dr Jacintha Veigas, lecturer of college of Nursing sciences of Nitte deemed to be university were the judges of the debate.
The programme was compered by Dr Recinta L Castelino of A B Shetty memorial dental science college. Prof G Sriniketan, president ICC welcomed th gathering. Vivek Pai of Nitte Gulabi Shetty memorial medicinal science college and Dr Vijayakumar were present.
