Bengaluru: Ahead of total lockdown, migrant workers scramble to catch train home

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Benglauru, May 9: When lockdown-like curfew was imposed in the state some days back, a large number of migrant workers from the city had migrated back to their villages.

Now again, after the announcement of lockdown for two weeks commencing on Monday May 10, the remaining workers have also decided to rush back to their hometowns. As a result, right from Sunday May 9 morning, crowds could be seen moving towards different railway stations here.

The workers and their womenfolk with huge luggage and children in tow, could be seen going to the railway stations. Most of them are from /west Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh ,Odisha and Jharkhand.

A very long queue could be seen at Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna railway station at Majestic area here on Sunday morning. The police are finding it hard to see that the workers maintain social distance.

When the Janata curfew was enforced, a large number of workers had headed homeward. Workers particularly from north Karnataka had rushed to their villages by buses, trains and whatever vehicles they could arrange. The workers are scared of facing the ordeal they went through during the last year's lockdown.

At the same time, people came out to stock essentials. People were seen rushing to mutton shops as there is a provision to buy the same till 12 noon in the city. Similarly large crowds were witnessed at the flower market since early morning. Flower shops on both sides of SJP Road saw brisk business and the people buying flowers hardly cared for social distance norms. The police on their part, tried to control the crowd by occasionally wielding their canes.

What kind of dirty govt these politicians are running man ? Why can't they announce full lockdown in advance ? Keep on changing the rules & time for essential items purchase, today I witnessed ba huge que in front of Supermarkets.. it was so risky to stand in line.. What a sad country am living in. in time of congress it was a golden period. I pray and hope BJP should never win in next elections . People are fools they are once responsible for electing & getting BJP to power. Now wait the lockdown until 24 may was a test it's gonna be extended till 30. again yeddi should announce lockdown for june then BJP fans will realise yeah we made a mistake we are at losses.

Lockdown should always be planned week in advance. It is a common sense. So that the people get time to plan things. Our migrant labourers also can easily return to their native easily if they wish. There is no planning, just announcing lockdown 1 or 2 day in advance is just unprofessional behaviour on part of the authorities. Also last year so many migrant labourers lost their life, also small children had to suffer.

As per reports Indian variant virus is more contagious than UK variant. Its time for us to help each other, at least to our immediate neighbors and relatives. virus is everywhere in villages and those who are sick they have huge logistics problem for medicines and essentials.

So sad to see these people travel time and again during lockdowns to their hometown. Poor guys do not even save anything working in the cities and whatever left is spent for their travel. We people get irritated if the flight is late by a few minutes sitting in the a/c and imagine the trauma they suffer carrying all their belongings and kids, no proper food and above all the risk of catching Corona. May Allah have mercy on them.
