Mangaluru, May 7: As the stock of coronavirus vaccine in the district has been exhausted, vaccination programme will be put on hold for two days in Dakshina Kannada district. The vaccination camps will not take place at the district Wenlock Hospital, urban primary health centres, primary health centres, community health centres and taluk hospitals for two days. District health department officials said that the campaign will resume once the stock of vaccine is replenished.
Shortage of vaccine is bothering the district at a time when the pandemic is spreading faster. On Thursday, the district had stock of only 500 doses of Covishield vaccine and by 12 noon, the stock was exhausted in hospitals. Those who came in later returned home disappointed.
As many as 1,000 doses of the Covaxin vaccine is expected to be received in two days. Those who have completed 42 days since the first dose was administered, will be given preference in vaccination. Covishield vaccine too is expected to be received in two days. The health department has made it compulsory to register online for getting vaccinated. For the rural people, this poses a problem. Many were sent back after they visited the vaccination centres without having advance information about this condition.
