Udupi, May 6: BJP leader and Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje has called for stringent lockdown amid the surge in Covid cases in the district.
Speaking on the situation she said, “Covid cases are increasing day by day. It appears that the partial lockdown is not effective to contain the spread of infection. A stringent curfew like the one that took place last time should be implemented. Only the purchase of essential commodities should be allowed,” stressed the MP.

“Temple programmes are being held even now. The cases will continue to rise if people behave the way they do now. The ones who arrive from outside the district should be compulsorily subjected to Covid tests. This includes travellers arriving from Mumbai and Bengaluru. I have directed officials to undertake RT-PCR tests immediately. Home quarantine should be made compulsory,” she said.
“Strict monitoring should be done in order to break the Covid chain of infection,” said MP Shobha Karandlaje.
