Kundapur, May 5: “The district administration has failed like last time to contain the rapidly spreading coronavirus in the taluk. People who were conducting business in Bengaluru have returned to their villages due to the lockdown. Those who are infected and their primary contacts are wandering about. The government should take immediate action and a Covid Care Centre should be opened in Kundapur,” urged Kundapur block Congress president Hariprasad Shetty with the district administration.
“The virus is spreading among members of the family due to lack of facilities in home isolation. A Covid Care Centre should be opened for people who do not have proper facilities for home isolation. There is a scarcity of RT-PCR test kits at health centres. There is a scarcity of ambulance facilities to ferry patients to the hospital. Additional ambulances should be arranged and additional staff should be employed at primary health centres considering the seriousness of the condition,” he requested.
“Gram panchayat level task force and gram panchayat officers are not interested in containing the virus. The infected people do not receive any help from them. Gram panchayat task force should hold meetings once in two days and discuss issues in gram panchayat limits. They should be in constant contact with the primary health centre. Gram panchayat workers are only providing statistics. The food and snacks that are being supplied to Kundapur Covid hospital are of inferior quality. Most of the patients cannot consume them. While rich people procure food from their residences, the poor are facing problems. Pure drinking water is not supplied in the Kundapur Covid hospital. An additional Covid hospital should be opened in Kundapur with proper basic facilities. There is a scarcity of staff at Kundapur Covid hospital. Necessary technicians, nurses and D Group employees should be appointed soon. There is only one Covid test centre at Kundapur public hospital and people flock there. Another test centre should be opened here. Immediate action is required to solve these problems,” he requested the deputy commissioner.
