Kasargod, May 4: In the light of coronavirus spreading like wildfire in spite of efforts made to contain it, the state government has decided to impose stricter measures in the state with effect from Tuesday May 4.
Semi lockdown has been put into place as the first phase of action till May 9. If the infection does not show signs of abating by then, the government has hinted that it proposes to implement total lockdown after May 10.
Emergency and essential services are exempt from these measures. Those violating this order will face action. People have been warned that they will face punitive action if they venture out of their homes unnecessarily.
Shops dealing in vegetables, fruits, provisions, fish and meat can be operated. People going on emergency duties at the office, hospital or other purposes have to show their identity cards. Hospitals, media, telecom, information technology, newspaper distributors, water supply, power sector etc are exempt from these measures. Covid vaccination centres too have been spared of the restrictions.
Hotels and restaurants can give out parcels but cannot conduct other businesses. Maximum permissible participation in case of marriages is 50 and 20 for funeral. In case of religious centres, a limit of 50 persons has been decided. Shops dealing in textiles, gold ornaments, barber shops etc will remain closed. People working in private companies have to present their identity cards when sought.
Police verification has been intensified from Tuesday.
The total corona infected persons in the district has crossed 50,000. Out of 50,535 who were confirmed of corona infection, 38,363 have been healed. On Monday, 1,139 tested positive for the disease, while l85 have been cured. A total of 11,796 are under treatment while 14,377 are under observation.
