Mangaluru: Marriages booked in halls, Kateel temple in limbo

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 23: The sudden spurt in coronavirus cases has put a big question mark on the marital future of hundreds of people.

The mass marriage programme of the government planned at Kollur temple on April 30 has been postponed. Thirty couples were to enter wedded life here.

As the period after February 24 till now was considered inauspicious, all the pending and planned marriage ceremonies are being held now. On April 25, 90 marriages have been registered in Kateel temple alone. But now devotees are not allowed into the temple from April 22. Those who have booked these marriages have requested temple management to sort out the issue. The management plans to organize marriages in the presence of five members each from two sides in the outer precincts of the temple if the district administration permits.

A number of marriages arranged in halls, hotels, etc are also facing uncertainty.

In the meanwhile, Pejawar Sri Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji, has called for postponing all events where people come together, in order to escape from corona wave. He expressed his disappointment at the spread of corona, which he said, has been caused by laxity on the part of the people. He said that the primary duty is to protect ourselves, and if the situation goes out of hand, no one can save us. He said that even grand ceremonies which cannot be postponed can be held without allowing the formation of a crowd.

@David, i am not here to defend indefendable events like Kumbh during Covid. But one need not have to be religiously biased while condemning. Any large gathering whether it us temple jatra festival, friday gathering at mosque, sunday gathering at churches are equally condemnable during this health emergency. Moreover Hinduism always preaches to practice good life habits to keep ones good health through yoga, medication, kind of food we eat, etc from ages. VAIDYO NARAYANA HARI.
