Mangaluru, Apr 21: The 14-day partial curfew began from 9 pm on Wednesday, April 21 and due to the rise in coronavirus cases, migrant workers were seen leaving for their native villages. This came to the notice of the police commissioner N Shashi Kumar, DCP Hariram Shankar and DC Dr K V Rajendra who was on rounds to check the situation of the first evening of the curfew.
The officials visited places like KSRTC, KPT and Nanthoor. On their visit to the bus stand, the DC interacted with the travellers. It was found that migrant workers were leaving the city on late-night buses to their respective villages.
One of the migrant workers from Gadag who was working in Bajal talking to the DC said that he was going to his village as it was a better option to stay in his village rather than the city amid rising coronavirus cases.
When the DC asked them if they had plans to return, the worker maintained that he would rather make a living in his village and would possibly not return to the city.
Meanwhile, police commissioner N Shashi Kumar and DC Dr K V Rajendra also issued a warning to people to reach home before 9 pm and told them to not wander without a specific reason.
Speaking to the media Shashi Kumar said, "The night curfew has been imposed from 9 pm and will be effective till 6 am. People are adhering to the orders. We can also see that there are some who are unaware of the government order. I urge people to reach home before 9 pm and follow the necessary coronavirus guidelines."
