Udupi, Apr 21: Couple of days after deputy commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha, who made standing passengers and students in buses to vacate citing more people than Covid protocol at Kalliyanpur-Santhakatte on April 19, former minister Pramod Madhwaraj took to Twitter to criticize the DC's move. He claimed that he never tolerated officials who harassed people when he was the MLA or the minister in Udupi.
Without naming the DC, Madhwaraj tweeted, "When I was MLA/Minister I never tolerated any officer who was insensitive to the people and those who harassed people. But people changed me and the change is being experienced by Udupi people."

It may be recalled that the DC carried out a sudden drive against those who were not wearing masks on Monday. While checking buses at Santhekatte, he made passengers who were standing in buses to vacate saying that the number of passengers are more than specified in the Covid protocol. This caused inconvenience to many passengers who travel daily to Udupi, including students. A video of a student expressing inconvenience went viral which received massive criticism against the DC's move.
Twitter campaign against DC
Several netizens joined a Twitter campaign demanding DC Jagadeesha's transfer. Tweets demanding to change DC in the district went viral through the hashtags used #getwellsoonudupidc, #transferudupidc, #gobackGjagadeesh. The DC came under severe criticism after the video of a student airing her difficulties went viral on social media platforms.
One Avinash Shetty tweeted, "Hello Mr DC@dcudupi main hoon Udupi student, publicity keliye na karo mera istemal. Use power for the good of people, not for building your image. Humanity above all."
Prakyath Nayak tweeted, "When common senseless bureaucracy overpowers, this is the result. I wonder why an individual has to study so hard, to do this? A illiterate will be more empathic, takes a good decision than this 'public-tax-sucker'!
