Passengers off-loaded from bus: Public including former minister Madhwaraj criticise Udupi DC's move

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (JD/DV)

Udupi, Apr 21: Couple of days after deputy commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha, who made standing passengers and students in buses to vacate citing more people than Covid protocol at Kalliyanpur-Santhakatte on April 19, former minister Pramod Madhwaraj took to Twitter to criticize the DC's move. He claimed that he never tolerated officials who harassed people when he was the MLA or the minister in Udupi.

Without naming the DC, Madhwaraj tweeted, "When I was MLA/Minister I never tolerated any officer who was insensitive to the people and those who harassed people. But people changed me and the change is being experienced by Udupi people."

It may be recalled that the DC carried out a sudden drive against those who were not wearing masks on Monday. While checking buses at Santhekatte, he made passengers who were standing in buses to vacate saying that the number of passengers are more than specified in the Covid protocol. This caused inconvenience to many passengers who travel daily to Udupi, including students. A video of a student expressing inconvenience went viral which received massive criticism against the DC's move.

Twitter campaign against DC

Several netizens joined a Twitter campaign demanding DC Jagadeesha's transfer. Tweets demanding to change DC in the district went viral through the hashtags used #getwellsoonudupidc, #transferudupidc, #gobackGjagadeesh. The DC came under severe criticism after the video of a student airing her difficulties went viral on social media platforms.

One Avinash Shetty tweeted, "Hello Mr DC@dcudupi main hoon Udupi student, publicity keliye na karo mera istemal. Use power for the good of people, not for building your image. Humanity above all."

Prakyath Nayak tweeted, "When common senseless bureaucracy overpowers, this is the result. I wonder why an individual has to study so hard, to do this? A illiterate will be more empathic, takes a good decision than this 'public-tax-sucker'!

First thing I do is to Thank the DC for His strict action. Ex MLA is giving His show off comments now when He is Ex MLA. What did He achieve when He was a acting MLA. If He did any great Actions when he was MLA ,He would have been elected as present MLA. Politicians have two tongues like Snakes ,which they wiggle both side of the mouth. Society is talking always if done right or wrong. One side the rule says overcrowding of buses not allowed because off Corona and buses are overloaded even the Corona Virus has no room to enter the bus. But when action is taken every stupid person jumps from ladder to show off. I congratulate Mangalore DC too for His action few days back. He also did the same thing as Udupi DC did yesterday. Common sense is lacking with Public. Same thing with Police Person, if they take little tough action everyone get Hyper in Blood Pressure. If they show any leniency Public goes haywire because Police let go criminals. Sad situation. These Politicians are the biggest problem for the Society. They do not do what they are supposed to do but stick their Tongue in everybody's business for Publicity and Money. Many are uneducated with no sense.

Dear Mr. Joe D'Souza, I couldn't bear reading your comment. Let me tell you, whatever DC did was right as you said, have you thought of the students ? If it was your daughter would you not be worried about she reaching home soon and safe ? I agree with students what they said, DC didn't do the right thing towards them. Since bus normally comes with full capacity from the main depo or Bus stand. There is no chance these students catch an empty bus right ? Have you ever thought this way?? Has the DC ever thought this way? As a DC he should have arranged some arrangements, He is a DC why couldn't he make arrangements for Public transportation ? since these students need to wait for another bus if it's full. ( 50% capacity as per norms ) As students mentioned they have few buses ( Every one hour to reach their destination ) Why enough of KSRTC buses are not flying for the beneficial of public, if they are restarted people can be benefitted, social distance can be maintained if enough buses are made available for public. I hope you got my point!! Think Think before commenting!! Rules need to be implemented, but they need to be feasible and not create a trouble to public!! Thank you ! Stay safe!

What is the fault of the passengers????......is this the fault of people waiting for bus to keep the count of the people or the bus who is carrying them? The bus owners should be punished for stuffing more people than Covid protocol. Bus driver should not stop the buses after they have reached the prescribed capacity and at the same time DC has to provide more buses to meet the demand. These are the uneducated leaders we have without vision.

I would agree such action was necessary, not sure if it is being done on regular basis on all public transport and private vehicles. But what went wrong there was, they should have made alternative arrangements to facilitate the all off-loaded reach their destinations. Can't let the passengers get stranded there, because there are students, aged people and may be office goers, who have a schedule to reach their destinations.

Mr. Madvaraj is showing that he is a clear man and worked only for people during his tenure in political position as MLA/Minister. If so, he should have called and discussed with DC tot take an appropriate action, instead of criticizing DC. He is only talking politic and nothing to do with public interest.

What extreme step did he take. Doing for one bus, will stop covid. Are there enugh buses during that time to take ppl with minimum capacity. If so are bus owners able to take with less people with high taxes tolls and diesel prices? Only standing ppl will sptead covid? What about those seated adjacent to eachother?

DC Jagadeesha, Do your work sincerely...don't go for publicity.....leave it for Politicians like Raghupati and Shobhakka... Even you did this in your last posting in Chickaballapur.... which caused you embarrassment and nothing else.... Our Infrastructure is not perfect to carry specified number of passengers in public transport....not only humans....Roosters/ Cocks/Kori....Cats....Dogs...Pigs and other animals too travel in our village buses( Some inside bags and some uncovered ) ....you better ignore this till all will have their own Cars like in Europe Sir... Thank you, Respectfully, Langoolacharya.

@Mathew - bus conductor at fault at issuing tickets for standing passengers. You can blame bus conductor, driver and not officials. Officials simply need to implement rules. Ok many passengers asked to get down. So what? They need to find another bus or hire a taxi.

Again you seem to be from the privileged section of society. Do you think all these people can hire and afford a taxi for a 1.5hr journey. Won't the parents of these lady students be concerned when their wards are delayed while returning home? Next bus is after 30 minutes. No guarantee that it will be empty. Learn to empathize with not so privileged people.

If this man doesn't understand the problems faced by the students, how is he even worth to serve in education sector? With great power comes great responsibility. Here there's only showoff of power. If he was sent to West Bengal during election rallies it would've been useful.

He offloaded passengers specially the students who are going to write exam. But, he should have arranged other means of transport and ensured they reached on time at the destination. Looks like he is going with Cameras and media persons for self publicity which can be seen. If he can do this to educated people of Udupi and all udupi people should object this or complain about his attitude.

This man, Udupi DC was behaving like a dictator from day one. He never talks politely with anyone. The power has gone to his head. I saw TV channels, where he was shouting at manager of Big Bazar in unacceptable manner. If a girl student asked to get down from the bus at mid way, where should she go ?? .... KSRTC buses are not available. Everyone is not as fortunate as this DC to have a car with driver... Majority of these bureaucrats are the curse for citizens. I saw bus conductor was asking... how to blow Whizzle with mask ??? Covid protocol is required... but is it only for poor people ???? He is unfit to continue as DC... Too crude for civilized society. Just compare this person to Sindhu roopesh or K V rajendra.... how polite & efficient they are.. the power given to DCs is too much/////// some of them are not mature enough to handle the administration. , just because they passed some exams.... covid rules are curse for common people, daily wage earning people...... Rich people are just enjoying the vacation !!! Government is in deep sleep... Bureaucrats are ........????
