Mangaluru: Short circuit in AC triggers fire at income tax office in Attavar

Mangaluru, Apr 15: A short circuit in the air-conditioner (AC) triggered fire in the TDS section of the Income Tax office at Central Revenue Building in Attavar, here on Thursday April 15, leading to panic.

Deputy commissioner of police (L&O) Hariramshankar who visited the spot, said that the incident took place at around 9.30 am. “As smoke billowed, the fire incident was noticed. The fire gutted a few computers, files, and cupboards. No one was injured in the incident and the fire was swiftly brought under control” he said.

He also informed that though the files were destroyed in the incident, the soft copies of all the data is stored in the centralized system. Hence, no data is lost, he said.

The Fire and Emergency Services vehicle was pressed into action to control the fire in the building.

Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar also visited the spot.

    I am worried why such incidents are happening in the Government offices most of the time. Is it lack of maintenance or lack of carelessness. Even God may fail to find out mystery behind this.....!!!!!?????
