Mangaluru, Apr 14: A 15-year-old boy suffered 50 per cent burn injuries after coming into contact with the overhead power line of a goods train at Thokur. The train that was stationed was waiting for a signal to proceed from Thokur.

The boy identified as Mohammed Dishan is the son of Jokkatte resident Iqbal. Dishan was reportedly trying to take a selfie from the top of the wagon which is believed to be the cause of the accident.

At around 2.55 pm on Wednesday, the station master on duty at the Jokkatte railway station began hearing the screams of boys, who told him about Dishan's accident. There were two other 15-year-old boys who were with Dishan when the incident took place. The locals immediately rushed Dishan to AJ Hospital in Mangaluru where he was admitted to the emergency ward.

The overhead lines and associated equipment carry voltage as high as 25,000 volts. In order to create awareness among the public, passengers and workers, boards carrying statutory warnings are displayed in important places around the electrified section.

As per the doctors, the body suffered 50 per cent burns due to electrocution.

A case has been registered by the Bajpe police in this connection.
