Mangaluru, Apr 12: The Holy month of Ramadan will begin in Dakshina Kannada from Tuesday, April 13 informed the district Kazi Al-Haj Twaka Ahmed Musliyar.
The chief secretary of Zeenath Baksh Central Juma Masjid Idgah mosque, Mohammed Hanif also made a similar announcement via press release. The first appearance of the Holy Ramadan moon was sighted in Calicut on Monday. The first day of fasting for the holy month is determined by the sighting of the new moon.
Similarly, Udupi district Kazi Al-Haji Zainul Ulama M Abdul Hameed also announced that the fasting will begin from Tuesday through a press release.
During Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, Muslims across the world fast from dawn to dusk from not only food but also worldly pleasures. Fasting during the month of Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. Ramadan culminates with the celebration of the Id-ul-Fitr festival.
