Udupi: Tempo was being driven without permit, clarifies police over assault

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Apr 10: A tempo driver was assaulted by police personnel for not giving the usual bribe.

This incident is reported from Moodubelle under Shirva police station limits of the district. The tempo was carrying asphalt.

Police personnel belonging to Shirva police station were checking the vehicles. When the said tempo arrived, they asked the driver to pay Rs 500 as a bribe. When the driver denied it, he was asked to bring the tempo to the police station.

The driver said that he was asked to sit in the police jeep where he was assaulted by the police personnel. The tempo driver identified as Shekhar Poojary has been admitted to the district hospital in the city. He is reportedly suffering from pain in his chest and neck due to assault by the police.

The tempo is owned by Hanumanthappa and the injured Shekhar Poojary was the one driving it.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Shirva SI Shrishaila said, "There was no permit for the tempo, which is why we have imposed Rs 500 fine. He protested that he will not pay the fine and tried to sleep under the jeep. Hence, we took him to the police station, leaving behind his vehicle on the same spot. He was made to pay the fine in front of the tempo owner and sent back."

I had been to Shirva Police station 35 years back to inform them about the death of our daily wagers father who committed suicide by consuming poison. By looking at the wife of the dead person (Old lady not even wearing a blouse)....police said "How you know that he committed suicide...go and cremate him". Even if the tempo is without permit, asking for bribe and assaulting is not justified.

if the report is read carefully, it appears that the driver was cheating the owner by plying vehicle for goods transport... the last sentence says, driver paid fine of 500 rs. in the presence of owner... that means owner has not authorised the driver to use tempo without license... driver has used it without license for commercial transport and without owner's knowledge.... if the owner had authorised it, owner would have been made to pay the fine , not the driver... on the whole driver seems to be a cheat...

People, I told this when I was a student of PUC in Shirva....say it again now .... Best think is close Shirva Police Station ( Mucchida Bagilu) and convert it into 'Gou Shala'....other than these illegal activities ...they do nothing productive... Give responsibility of Law and Order of Shirva ...to Daiva JUMAADI....everything will be peaceful ...trust me... ...Tak...Takk...

If so, seize it or fine owner, but why assault the driver? Dismiss the involved police or transfer them to records division permanently

these third rated policemen need treatment from people of ghatta.. many might have seen the video where the traffic policemen were chased and beaten by the public at Mysuru recently for causing the death of a motorist by stupidly asking him to stop while driving at high speed. the coward public of mlore and udupi is not fit for such a thing..just writing here in forums.

Is the SI your relative from ghatta ? as per you the cop will not show his paurusha if the other person is weak...what a logic!!!! Its quite clear the SI is at fault coz they have no video to prove that the driver did not move from the front of his wheel. if you have a working brain and know how things work in all situation the constable. takes a video ... if such thing had happened there would have been a video for sure.... Stop supporting wrong doers... he was just a driver... that too 66 year old working for his bread and butter.. he isn't a criminal to be thrashed!!!!

OUR POLICE LAPSES POLITENESS, OBEDIENCE, LOYALTY, INTEGRITY, COURTESY AND EFFICIENCY. PHYSICAL ASSAULT, BRIBE, RUDE LANGUAGE AND MORALS CAN'T BE FOUND WITH THEM. PEOPLE OF INDIA LOST TRUST WITH THEM AS THEY ARE SUPPORTING POLITICAL BOSSES, INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE, AND THOSE OFFER THEM BRIBE. THIS IS THE FACT IN INDIA AS UNEDUCATED AND CRIMINAL POLITICIAN OR MINISTER DICTATING TERMS!!!??? WITHOUT POLICE REFORMS AND COPS RESPECT EACH AND EVERY INDIVIDUAL THERE WON'T BE JUSTICE AS MOST OF THE POLICE ARE AFTER CORRUPTION!!!

Mr KBR , the inspector must be from your region thats why your support!!! . Where is the video footage of inspectors claim that the guy tried to sleep under the jeep... Every time a police goes to a spot a lower rank police i.e constable films the entire incident on the phone... for sure no such thing happened coz the inspector has thrashed him!!

"He protested that he will not pay the fine and tried to sleep under the jeep.". the police needs to provide video evidence for this claim. During any such incidents the constables take video of the entire happenings on their mobile phone. This is the norm. How come it wasn't captured this time ?

It is a usual thing to bribe the police. Traffic police take money from road side vendors and shopkeepers whose customers are allowed to park on the footpath and obstruct pedestrians from using the footpath. Jewelry shops at Falnir, Bendore their customers use the footpath to park their vehicles. Police do not penalise anyone parking their vehicles on the footpath in the above cases. Bars and restaurants pay a lot to traffic police station regularly so that customers can park anywhere near the bar and restaurant. That is why the traffic police only tow two wheeler, rarely tow a four wheeler.

k.b.r mangalauru.no sense what you are writing.Police are and can turn and twist as they want.when he had no permision he wouldnt work as tempo driver.Second why it was only 500 rupees ?ITempo can transport jally and why police should fine him?How then the owner paid later this fine ?It is only these few Police spoil the name of whole Police Dept.Let these police come here and work then they will come to know how police should work .Make a exchange of these police people.with or without permit ,they have no licence to assault anyone.Case can be filed on them and they have to pay to him at last.Brainless people. In future these going to police station should wear a body or hide camera to note what is all going there .so that you have proof.
