Bantwal, Mar 24: The police arrested one in connection to the attack on an astrologer here at Padma complex, B C Road. The incident took place on March 20.
The police here have arrested Mohan Prabhu (38) from Panjikallu. He has been accused of hitting Laxmikanth Bhat alias Hanumanthappa, who used to practice astrology at Sri Durgaparameshwari Jyothishalaya.
Prabhu has held the astrologer responsible for creating a split between him and his wife, resulting in her walking away from his life.
A police team led by sub-inspector (crime) Kalaimar, working under the guidance of Bantwal police inspector Cheluvaraju, succeeded in finding out the whereabouts of the accused. Prabhu has since admitted that he attacked the astrologer because of personal enmity.
Prabhu had tremendous faith in astrological predictions. He had visited astrologer, Laxmikanth, to know from him about the future of his family life and how he can improve upon things. Laxmikanth, who is from Bagalkot district, gave him certain devices. One of his advice was to divorce Prabhu's wife, as their personalities do not match.
Prabhu believed in the predictions and divorced his wife. Later, he realised that it was a mistake. He thereafter grew angry about the astrologer. Seething with anger because of the notion that the astrologer was the root cause for his wife deserting him, Prabhu visited Laxmikanth on March 20 duly acting like he was there to seek astrological advice, and hit him in the head with a rod and escaped from there.
