Udupi, Mar 22: ICYM Udyavara's golden jubilee committee hosted the 'Bhangralo Khela Utsav-2021' with grandeur. The event was inaugurated by Anil and Reema Lobo
"The golden jubilee committee has worked tirelessly to organise this event. I thank the parish priest for his immense support and wish the event a grand success," Anil Lobo said.
Addressing the gathering Joylus D'Souza, president of the Christian Development Board said, "The youths organise very few events these days. But ICYM Udyavara's golden jubilee committee has worked hard to organise this program. With this event, youths of both dioceses have come together. This will serve as a platform to showcase talents. Let this be the beginning of friendship to continue. The youths will be leading the community in the future."
Speaking on the occasion Walter Nandalike, founder and managing director of Daijiworld Media said, "This is not just a Sports Day. This day is for your own health and wellness. Let this event be an inspiration for us to spend at least one hour for our health."
Fr Ronald D'Souza, former director of ICYM central committee, Mangaluru said, "The events organised by ICYM golden jubilee committee are really remarkable. ICYM has created many leaders in the last 50 years. Since the initial days, the committee has given the opportunity to participants from both Mangaluru and Udupi diocese. Winning is not important, but showcasing talent is."
Presiding over the event Fr Stany B Lobo, chancellor of Udupi diocese and parish priest of Udyavar church said, "All the other programs were organized inside the auditorium but this is the first program to take place on open grounds. Let all the games take place with good fervour."
Wilson Rodrigues Shirva, zilla panchayat member, Dayanand P, retired officer minority department Nery Cornelio, president IFCA Udupi, Veronica Cornelio, KPCC panellist, Melwyn Noronha, vice-president, Parish Pastoral Committee, Felix Alva, president, Rotary Club-Udupi midtown, Ronald Manohar Karkada, businessman were present on the occasion.
Over 75 parishes from Udupi and Mangaluru diocese took part in the event. Games like tug of war, throwball and volleyball received tremendous response from the participants. The event also raised donations for the medical treatment of Rishik Padukone, a 6-year-old child suffering from leukaemia. Udyavar team runners up of cooking without fire, Kanajar and Udyavar winners and runners of tug-of-war respectively, Shankerpura team and the golden jubilee committee, donated their contribution to the cause. A sum of Rs 68,177 was raised for Rishik in the event.
The valedictory ceremony was marked with prize distribution by the dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering Devendra Biradar, district officer of the minority department said, "It is a well-organized programme. I was also a sportsperson back in my college days. Sports helps keep the mind and body healthy".
Speaking in his presidential speech Fr Stany B Lobo said, "I thank the Almighty for helping us conduct the event successfully. 75 teams have participated in the event. This programme has brought every one of us together. Participants have arrived from near and far. With this, we will surely come together on many more occasions. I appreciate the initiative by the golden jubilee committee in helping a child in need. We need to try to wash away the tears of the disadvantaged," he said.
Fr Charles Menezes, parish priest, Mother of Sorrows Church, Fr Rolwin Aranha, assistant parish priest Udyavar, Fr Johnson Sequiera, principal St Mary's English Medium School (CBSE), Fr William Martis Valerian M Alva, trustee Moodubelle Charitable Trust, Bonaventure Mascarenhas, retired physical education teacher, Ronald Karkada, businessman, Michel D'Souza, president, golden jubilee committee, Dora Aroza, general secretary, John Gomes, convenor sports committee, Royal Castelino, president ICYM, Jane Belita D'Souza, secretary were present on the occasion.
All the referees were honoured at the event.
